Services for Susan, Memories Book

Services for Susan will be held on Wednesday, December 10th at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Tempe South Stake Center located at 1111 E. Knox Rd, Tempe, AZ. There will be a viewing on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the same location, and a second viewing on Wednesday at 9:30 AM. Please spread the word.

In lieu of flowers, Susan asked that donations be directed to a foundation we are establishing in her name that will assist cancer patients who cannot afford the kind of treatment she was blessed to receive. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo branch to account number 2017305018.

Finally, a good friend has offered to collect memories, stories, and photos to create a memories book for Susan's family. If you would like to contribute, please send your memories and photos to tributetosusan@gmail.com and invite other friends to do the same.

I've known Susan all her life and she has always stepped up to every challenge with excitement and enthusiasm and did her very best.
As I watched her ride the mechanical bull at Rawhide in June she was full of health and enthusiasm. She stepped up to the challenge and rode better and stayed on longer than any in our group.
These last few months Susan faced another challenge with her characteristic enthusiasm. She stayed on and rode as long as she could and in the end expressed her love for her family and friends and her faith in Jesus Christ.
Susan is an example to me of how to face each challenge with enthusiasm and do your best.

I have just come across your blog and am so touched. And even though today is the first day I "meet" Susan, you and her story, I am sitting her crying and grieving with you. How amazing of you to keep the internet world updated during your time of sorrow. I am so sorry for your loss and will pray for you, your familiy and of course Susan. May God bless you and keep Susan with him in the heavens.

Justin. I don't know if you remember me. I was around in the "single" days. My goodness Justin, I don't know how to express my grief for you and your family. I am so sorry for your loss. I will pray for your comfort and strength to get through this unbelievable hard time. I cannot even imagine.
I hope you know that pain and suffering will pass. Grief may be too hard to stand at times but there IS a man who knows exaclty how you feel and he WILL comfort you and show you unimaginable amounts of love. PRAY to HIM.
Take care my friend.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Mortensen family. I am so so so sorry for your loss. I went to high school with Mike at Corona.

This is no doubt a difficult time for your family. Susan and Justin's love is an inspiration to all of us. Her amazing attitude throughout the journey is admirable. Best wishes to the Mortensen family.....Ashwini Sagar Davison

I interacted with Susan on several occassions due to my association with MediServe. Susan always shared a smile and was very friendly and made me feel welcome when I was away from my home to attend the MediServe conferences. My deepest sympathy and heart felt prayers to Justin and the Mortensen family for whom I have come to have the highest regards.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry for the loss and great sadness for all of you. I wish I had the words to take away the great pain and sadness that only time can give you. I have found this poem to be helpful at times of loss in my own family and I do hope it will bring some comfort:

I am standing on the sea shore,
A ship sails in the morning breeze and starts for the ocean.
She is an object of beauty and I stand watching her
Till at last she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says:
"She is gone."

Gone! Where?
Gone from my sight - that is all.
She is just as large in the masts, hull and spars as she was when I saw her
And just as able to bear her load of living freight to its destination.
The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me,
not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,
"She is gone",
There are others who are watching her coming, and other voices take up a glad shout:
"There she comes"
- and that is how it is with dying. A horizon and just the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, Oh Lord, that we may see further.

Good bless you and we will keep all of you in our prayers. - Kathy Thomas
